A Transition....

Disability changes a person's world. Family and work situations are altered. Lifetime plans may be disrupted. Rehabilitation becomes a transition for individuals and their families - a time to put the pieces of their lives back together, physically and emotionally.Levi Hospital has long been recognized as a leader in rehabilitation services.

At Levi Outpatient Rehab patients work to regain or adapt their previous capabilities and learn new skills in an atmosphere or warmth and dignity.

Incentives for Rehab

The economic incentives for rehabilitation are increasing as the medical care and disability costs continue to escalate. Millions of Americans have physical disabilities and the number rises each year as the population ages and (thanks to technology) more people survive once-fatal injuries. Studies show that for every dollar spent on rehabilitation, the savings are considerable.

The personal incentives from rehabilitation are even greater. Who can measure the increase in quality of life for a person able to return home or to work following a successful rehabilitation program?

Each patient is also an active member of the team. To achieve success, rehabilitation requires a united effort by the patient and the care providers.

Problems Treated

Rehabilitation can benefit anyone impaired by trauma, illness, surgery, or birth defect. The Levi Outpatient Rehab provides treatment related to the following:

Functional Problems Treated Include:

What is Rehab?

Physical therapy helps patients improve their strength, mobility, balance and endurance. Therapists employ the most modern treatment and equipment to help patients regain their maximum functional ability in these areas: locomotion (walking, wheelchair ambulation, stairs), transfers (in/out of bed, wheelchair, car), range of motion in upper and lower extremities and muscle strength in upper and lower extremities and trunk.

Stroke/Neuro Rehabilitation

More than 500,000 Americans have strokes each year. It's estimated that eight out of ten will survive the initial phase. Our stroke/neuro rehabilitation program is individualized to meet specific needs of the patient following a stroke or other neurological disorder. The program includes consultation with rehabilitation specialists, daily therapy sessions, activities of daily living, (including practice in the kitchen, shopping trips, dressing, grooming and homemaking skills), home-site evaluations, speech therapy, recreational therapy, community outings, family conferences and post-hospitalization stroke support group. The objectives of the Stroke Rehabilitation Program are to help stroke patients achieve their maximum level of independence and to educate the patient - along with the patient's family members - on how to deal with the effects of a stroke.

Orthopedic Rehabilitation

The Levi Rehabilitation Unit provides post-operative rehabilitative services to those patients who have had surgeries such as hip or knee replacement, or have suffered orthopedic injuries. Orthopedic rehab therapies include: specialized physician evaluation and examination, physical therapy to restore range or motion and function, occupational therapy evaluation and treatment to improve function and provide adaptive equipment as needed, educating patients on how to function with a new prosthetic joint, aquatic therapy in a large thermal heated pool, recreational therapy community outings and home-site evaluation.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists teach strategies and skills to help patients increase function and regain self-sufficiency in the tasks of daily living, feeding, grooming, bathing, toileting, toilet transfer, bathtub/shower transfer, etc. Occupational therapy is also involved in muscle strength and range of motion of upper extremeties. The goal is to improve functional independence so that a patient can safely return to their home environment.

A specially trained staff evaluates and treats patients recovering from a stroke, tumor, traumatic brain injury or other neurological diseases. The program trains paients who have problems with word finding, slurred speech, comprehension, reading, writing, problem solving, memory loss, oral motor weakness and swallowing.
