Dr. Nancy Hornstein completed her undergraduate training at the University of Minnesota where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She went on to medical school at Chicago Medical School where she obtained her M.D. in 1983 with honors. Dr. Hornstein completed both her psychiatry residency and her child psychiatry fellowship at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) at the Neuropsychiatry Institute. She also completed a two-year child psychiatry research fellowship at UCLA in the area of complex differential diagnosis in child psychiatry. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry and is board-eligible in child/adolescent psychiatry.

After completing her training in child psychiatry, Dr. Hornstein pursued a career in clinical academic psychiatry. She held several positions with combined clinical, teaching and research duties. She was the Unit Director for the Children's Inpatient Program at UCLA for several years, and then served as the Associate Director for Child Psychiatry at Cedar's Sinai Medical Center. Later she was recruited by the University of Illinois in Chicago to direct their Child Psychiatric Consultation Liaison program to Pediatrics. She has been in private practice in Illinois for the last several years. Dr. Hornstein has published articles in the Journal of American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, in the Psychiatric Clinic of North American and a chapter in Kaplan and Sadock's most recent edition of the Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry.
